In many cultures being male is denoted by a man’s sexual potency, his success at producing offspring and his masculinity is often judged on the basis of these. This has especially become so in western culture where a man known to have and erectile dysfunction can be damaged severely psychologically. Because of this, most men rarely discuss these problems and increasingly have disastrous social lives.

The penis is like a hydraulic pump, and has sections that fill up with fluid – that causes it to become erect, and releases fluid – which causes it to become flaccid. When blood enters the penis due to a state of arousal or because of physical manipulation, the penis keeps hold of the blood entering and thus inflates to become rigid. The inability for the penis to perform this function of filling up with blood and thus becoming rigid is erectile dysfunction – even though there’s some form of arousal.
This can be treated by solving both any issues that do not allow the brain to send the correct signals and by treating the physical body, so that engorgement and rigidity of the penis takes place. Solving the psychological problems if there are any that are identified takes time and means meeting with a councilor and sorting out the problem over time. However, there are a number of PDE inhibitor drugs available in the market today that take care of the immediate problem of the erection itself.

PDE5 is an enzyme that actually causes the penis to remain limp. Usually the brain instructs the enzyme to switch off, thus causing an erection. But, there are efficient and proven drugs available in the market today that inhibit PDE5 helping with the matter of causing an erection. Other than taking these PDE5 inhibiting drugs (a number of popular brands exist like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis), other solutions could also be looked at like injections (a brand of drug called Befar can be injected directly into the penis), penis pumps (draws blood into the penis) and even surgery (by which semi stiff rods are placed into the penis).

The best solution of course would be to take the oral PDE5 inhibitors, since these are painless and easy to consume.
